Apartment Hotel

It comes into view as you make the short walk from taxicab to doorway above the Prinsengracht Canal that’s often touted as the most beautiful in Amsterdam. Seven One Seven began life as the private home of a sugar trader in the 17th Century, slowly expanding with his gaining wealth before debuting as a private apartment hotel in 1997. The current owners acquired the property and transitioned into a real hotel, albeit with just eight rooms, maintaining the air of a private home with the added amenities of daily in-room breakfast and hosted wine bar that is noticeably missing the hard stuff as well as someone to servce it. Without a real kitchen or bar to speak, Seven One Seven masters the private residence experience with a location that will have you feeling like a posh Hollander in no time. Morning breakfast, complimentary, is served in the lower level Strawinsky lounge or in the summer patio if not requesting it directly to your bed.<br />

The Room

Eight exquisite rooms are divided into two executive suites, four junior suites and two double deluxe room located at the front and rear of the property. With names like Shakespeare, Tolkien, Mahler and Shubert a thoroughly home-style design concept is enwrapped in colorful blue and cinnamon-colored walls with upholstered settees, cushy lounge chairs and sleeper-sofas (not the sofa bed kind) long enough for even a tall Dutchman to lay. Century old oil canvases and blue and white pottery lamps at time feel like a lot to look at, but in a good way that feels like the stylish apartment of a good friend or relative. In-room perks include signature hand-woven linens and views of the front canal or a picturesque rear garden. Bathrooms feature bathtubs with hand-shower as well as separate shower stall with Chopard bath products and slinky robes for lounge-y Amsterdam mornings.
